This certificate in food handling course is designed for all people who wish to work in a supervisory role within food operations. This role encompasses all duties of monitoring and controlling as required by a food safety program and supervision of food handler’s in the workplace. You must complete Level 1, certificate in food handling prior to taking on this Level 2 course. This course is also applicable to those running their own small business involving food.

Certificate I in Hospitality

Individuals may work in a team but always under direct supervision. This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway and for VET in Schools delivery. There are no prerequisites for entry to this qualification.  
Individuals with this qualification are able to perform tasks such as:

  • Serving food and drinks at a counter or delivering them to tables
  • Clearing tables
  • Providing housekeeping support services
  • Carrying luggage to rooms.

Certificate II in Hospitality

Nationally Recognised Training Logo 120pxA Certificate II in Hospitality (SIT202007) is the next level of certificate in food handling which is designed for those who are employed as trainees in the hospitality industry. It is also applicable to those who want to work at the operative level in a range of hospitality settings, such as restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops. Individuals may work with some autonomy or in a team but usually under close supervision.


This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a range of activities and functions requiring basic operational knowledge and limited practical skills in a defined context. This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway and for VET in Schools delivery.

The Certificate II in Hospitality allows you to develop your practical hospitality skills and provides you with the opportunity to be employed or advance in the hospitality industry in any of the following roles:

  • Undertaking mise en place prior to service
  • Serving food and beverage to tables
  • Bar attendant preparing and serving drinks at a bar
  • Selling beverages in a retail liquor outlet
  • Receptionist providing reception or front desk services
  • Housekeeper providing housekeeping services
  • Providing assistance in a catering operation
  • Porter at an accommodation establishment.

You will learn the essential requirements for working in the hospitality industry and develop your customer service and communication skills, along with a wide range of skills relevant to food and beverage service, accommodation services or other hospitality services.

Learners who successfully complete this program are able to articulate with, and receive credits for relevant units of competency from other qualifications in the Tourism, Hospitality and Events Training Package (SIT07). When you have completed this course you can gain articulation into SIT30207 Certificate III in Hospitality.

Certificate III in Hospitality

Nationally Recognised Training Logo 120pxA Certificate III in Hospitality (SIT30707) is applicable to those working in the Hospitality, Tourism and Events Industries.This level of certificate in food handling provides you with the skills to develop and update your hospitality knowledge, work efficiently with customers and colleagues alike, and promote products and services to customers, in any hospitality setting, such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops. Your advancement through the hospitality industry with this certificate in food handling will see you entering the possible roles of:

  • Bar attendant preparing and serving drinks at a bar
  • Barista preparing and serving espresso coffee
  • Waiter serving food, or wine waiter serving wine and other beverages at tables
  • Receptionist providing reception or front desk services
  • Housekeeper, providing housekeeping services.

Depending on the electives you choose, this training will see you develop skills in the following fields of operation:

  • Interpreting and providing clear and accurate information to customers to ensure a positive hospitality experience.
