In New South Wales (NSW) food handlers are not required to undertake any specific training but there is a general obligation under the Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) that everyone involved in the production, preparation, handling and transport of food be trained to a level commensurate with their responsibilites. Most councils recognise completion of SITXOHS001A - Follow Workplace Hygiene Procedures as meeting the FSANZ requirements for food handler training.

NSW Food Safety Supervisor CertificateNSW Food Safety Supervisor Training Requirements

In NSW, a Food Safety Supervisor must have a NSW Food Authority Food Safety Supervisor Certificate. These certificates can bee issued by NSW Food Authorty licenced training organisations following the successful completion of a course of training. The NSW Food Authority does not allow training organisations to use recognition of prior learning as a means of demonstrating competency, all food safety supervisor certificate candidates must complete the training regardless of prior experience or knowledge. The course of training to obtain this certificate can include the Units of Competency SITXOHS002A and SITXFSA001A or SIRRFSA001A. The Australian Online College offers the first two units as a package which meets the NSW Food Authority training requirements.

Under NSW legislation, Food Safety Supervisors must complete refresher training every 5 years.

Persons operating in NSW will be required to obtain a NSW Food Safety Supervisor Certificate issued by the Australian Online College on behalf of the NSW Food Authority. This NSW certificate is available for an additional charge of $45.

NSW RSA Training Requirements

In NSW all persons employed in a licenced premises who are involved in the sale of alcohol are required to hold a current NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming Racing(OLGR) - Respsonsible Service of  Alcohol (RSA) Certificate. Training for this certificate must be conducted face-to-face, online training is not permitted.

The online RSA training offered by the Australian Online College does not meet the legislative requirements for RSA training in NSW. A list of approved trainers can be found on the NSW OLGR Approved RSA Trainer page.

NSW RCG Training Requirements

In NSW all persons employed in a licenced premises who are involved in the sale or delivery of gambling products are required to hold a current NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing(OLGR) - Respsonsible Conduct of  Gambling (RCG) Certificate. Training for this certificate must be conducted as face-to-face training over a minumum of 6 hours, online training is not permitted.

The online RSG training offered by the Australian Online College does not meet the legislative requirements for RCG training in NSW. A list of approved trainers can be found on the NSW OLGR Approved RCG Trainer page.
