Course Description

The course is our introductory Safe Food Handling Certificate course. It is designed to provide new or aspiring food handlers with basic safe food handling and food hygiene skills, and will assist employers in meeting the Australia and New Zealand Food Standards Code requirement that all personnel involved in food handling must have the skills and knowledge they need to handle food safely.

This is a modular course which includes sections relating to:

  • Handling food hygienically;
  • Keeping the workplace clean;
  • Maintaining personal hygiene.

This online Safe Food Handling certificate course introduces Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) procedures and includes progressive multiple choice assessments at the end of each section. Students are able to view the course materials as often as required and must achieve 100% in each assessment section to pass the course. (Multiple attempts at the assessments are permitted).

This course is interactive and is narrated.

Accreditation

This Safe Food Handling certificate course is accreditated and is delivered as Nationally Recognized Training under the Australian Quality Training Framework and is delivered by the Australian Online College Pty Ltd RTO #32289.

Completion of this course leads to the issue of a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for the unit of competency 'SITXOHS002A - Follow Workplace Hygiene Requirements'. This unit is from the Certificate I in Hospitality - SIT10207.

This Safe Food Handling certificate course is accepted in the retail, hospitality, tourism and transport industries. Persons working in the health or community services sectors need to complete courses coded HLTFS207B, HLTFS309B and HLTFS301B. These health and community services units of comeptency are not currently available from Australian Online College.

 

Pre-requisites

This course does not have any pre-requisites but is a pre-requisite for a number of courses including the Food Safety Supervisor course 'SITXFSA001A Implement Food Safety Procedures' which is available on this website.

Entry Requirements

Students must supply a current, valid email address in order to enrol in the course and must have access to a computer with:

  • Broadband internet access
  • Web Browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox Preferred)
  • Email account access
  • Flash 8 Player or higher
  • Sound card and speakers required for listening to narration.

 

Career Opportunities

This Safe Food Handling certificate course is a pre-requistite for employees involved in food preparation, food handling or food service. Employees could be engaged in the food processing, retail, hospitality, health and community services or transport and distribution industries. Typical workplaces for food handlers include flour mills, canneries, bakers, catering companies, breweries, ice or wine production facilities, supermarkets, convenience stores, grocers, delicatessens, restaurants, hotels, take-away food outlets and cafes, market stalls, warehouses and bulk food distribution centres.

Time to Complete

You should allow at least 2 hours of uninterrupted time to complete this course. You are able to complete the course over multiple sessions as the system 'remembers' where you are up to allowing you to resume where you left off.

Requirement for Recurrent Training

There is no recurrent training requirement for this course.

Cost

The full cost of this course is $73 including GST and a downloadable copy of your Statement of Attainment.

Students who would prefer a printed and laminated copy of their Statement of Attainment posted on completion of your course can select that option from the 'Certificate Options' located just above 'Enrol & Pay buttons at an additional cost of $15.
