Course Description

The unit of competency TAELLN401A - Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills is designed to provide trainers and assessors with the skills and knowledge required to recognise the core language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) demands of training and assessment, and to tailor training and assessment to suit individual skill levels through the provision of relevant support resources.

This course is modular and contains sections about:

  • How trainers and assessors can determine the core LLN requirements of the training specification and context using validated tools and other sources of information to determine existing core LLN skills of learners.
  • Applying appropriate strategies for collaboration with specialist language, literacy and numeracy practitioners where it is determined that the learner needs specialist core LLN assistance.
  • Selecting and customising or developing learning and assessment materials that are appropriate to core LLN skills of training specification, training context and learners.
  • Applying learning support strategies to assist learners to develop required core LLN skills Continuous improvement of resources and strategies used to support LLN assistance strategies.

The assessment for this course includes multiple choice and short answer questions, responses to case studies, practical exercises involving the use of the ACSF document to determine a student’s LLN skills and submission of an essay / report relating to the assessment of LLN skills and implementation of support strategies within the training environment.

This course is interactive and includes practical exercises.Participants are able to download a PDF version of the learner guide.

Mode of Delivery

This course is delivered online and will be available as a correspondence / distance education program in the near future. Students are able to complete the course over multiple sessions as the system 'records' the student’s progress allowing them to resume where they left off. Multiple choice questions are graded online. The short answers question and essay responses may be entered online or submitted by email, fax or post for assessment.

Accreditation

This course has been developed to meet the requirements of the national units of competency TAELLN401A -Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills and is delivered as National Recognised Training under the Australian Quality Training Framework by the Australian Online College Pty Ltd RTO #32289.

This unit of competency is currently an elective in the TAE40110 - Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and TAE50211 - Diploma of Training Design and Development. It is currently a core unit in the TAE50111 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training and Assessment. From July 2014 it will be a core unit in the Certificate IV.

Pre-Requisites

This program does not have a pre-requisite requirement.

Entry Requirements

Students must supply a current, valid email address in order to enrol in the course and must have access to a computer with:

  • Broadband internet access
  • Web Browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox Preferred)
  • Email account access Flash 8 Player or higher Sound card and speakers required for listening to narration.

Students will require access to a copy of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) document during the course. We provide a link to a downloadable copy of the 200+ page document within the course resources but strongly encourage all students to obtain a hard copy from Federal Department of Innovation Website.

Career Opportunities

Job roles associated with this qualification relate to the delivery of training and assessment of competence within the VET sector. Possible job titles and roles relevant to this qualification include: enterprise trainer enterprise assessor registered training organisation (RTO) trainer RTO assessor training adviser or training needs analyst vocational education teacher.

Time to Complete

You should allow twenty hours of uninterrupted time to complete this course. This time may be allocated over multiple periods according to the students preferences.

Requirement for Recurrent Training

TAELLN401A Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills does not have recurrent training requirements.

The cost of this course is $225. GST is not applicable. The course fee includes a downloadable copy of the student’s Statement of Attainment.Students who would prefer a printed and laminated copy of their Statement of Attainment posted on completion of your course can select that option from the 'Certificate Options' located just above 'Enrol & Pay buttons.
